We are so excited to have Chris and Jodi on the podcast today! They are dear friends and have an incredibly inspiring story about making home wherever they are, whether that’s living out of their Jetta touring across Canada or in their home now in Nashville. There’s so much more to this episode than can be written about here, so be sure to take a listen above if you haven’t had a chance yet!
Chris and Jodi met on the road. They started as good friends touring across Canada and eventually fell in love and were married. Chris and Jodi were in 2 separate bands the first 3 years of their married life, before Chris filled in on guitar for one of Jodi’s gigs. The rest is history.
It would be many years later that their current project, Love & The Outcome, came to be, but Chris and Jodi hit the road together across Canada in their Jetta. They lived there, on friends couches, and anywhere else they could find as they pursued Jodi’s solo career. They created a unique perspective of the idea of “home” throughout this time, and this perspective permeates their music as Love & The Outcome still to this day.
“We stopped needing to go home…and we realized as long as we were together it was this beautiful thing where we could just say yes.” - Jodi
“We had homesickness taken out of the equation.” - Chris
Side Note on the Enneagram
The enneagram is a personality profiling system that is really popular in our sphere. We discuss this briefly in the episode, and it’s way too much to get into here. But the gist is that there are 9 core personality types, and these types each have their own individual internal motivation for the decisions they make. Chandler and Jodi are both 3s - “the achievers.” They are motivated by being perceived as successful, which generally makes 3’s very high-achieving and driven people. Chris and Jeremy are both 9s - “the peacemakers.” They are motivated to keep their internal peace and create peace in those around them, which makes them generally a bit more laid back and “chill.”
Each number has strengths and weaknesses, but it’s a great tool to use in self-understanding and in understanding those around you. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled show notes…
What do you do on the road to make it feel like home?
Chris and Jodi almost exclusively drive to all their shows in their mini-bus, “White Neptune.” This allows them and their kids a level of consistency on the road that is really valuable. In addition to having some of their “normal” amenities like toys and coffee, they do a couple other things to make bus life feel like home. One thing Jodi says they do is to have fresh greenery and candles on the bus, which brings the space to life a bit!
West Elm and Pottery Barn are some of our favorite places to shop for faux greenery and candles. If you want to spruce up your space with some greenery, give these a try! (click on the pic to check them out)
What things do you do at your home in Nashville to make it a place you love to come home to?
We asked Chris and Jodi what they do in their physical home in Nashville to make it a place they love to come home to. They gave us a pretty fun list!
The Couch - a place of relaxation and familiarity that beckons after a long weekend on the road
Flower Beds - Chris enjoys weeding and making the flower beds in front of their house look awesome (something we are working on too, if you follow our instagram stories)
Lawn Mowing - simple tasks like this keep you grounded, and the familiarity is comforting
Coffee Subscription - there’s always something to look forward to on Mondays when coffee is delivered to your door weekly.
Neighbors - creating community is SO important, especially for people who live life on the road.
Pull Up Bar - staying fit and creating a home routine creates the feeling of home even more
The Podcast Corner
Last year we were able to help Chris and Jodi create a space in their home where they now do all their podcasting from! Jeremy made a built-in kitchen nook for them and Chandler redesigned the dining space with a new table, chairs, rug, and light fixture. Check out out here!
